Cool weather had me second guessing heading out to the Boulder site or not. Glad we decided to go, lots of help form dedicated volunteers and city of Boulder Open Space employees produced 1 Racer and 3 Rattlesnakes. We re-deployed a recovered shed transmitter. Taping the transmitters to the snakes is working well.

Colorado has had a cool down which makes finding snakes difficult. Myself and 3 City of Boulder techs went out to find rattlesnakes and deploy transmitters. Ironing out bugs prior to fall, the goal is to have 10 transmitters in the field when the snakes go underground for hibernation. Data on hibernaculum locations will be valuable for determining new trail locations. Our non invasive technique lasts until the snake sheds then we retrieve the transmitter and redeploy. Mission was successful.

Ryan and I were on our way to Lyons and stopped off at the survey site for a quick visit, looming storms shortened our trip. Ryan located an adult male Prairie Rattlesnake on the crawl.

Night of the Racers. Ryan and I arrived a little early and had time to look around the parking lot, found 2 adult Racers 1 male and 1 gravid female. She was the largest racer we have found in Colorado. Went to the survey site and despite our best effort, could only find 1 adult racer.

Totals: 3 Adult Racers (Only one counts for the survey)
